BSB CROFT Round 10 13/08/06

SUPERBIKES

It was dry but dull for race 1, Jonathan Rea (Honda) had qualified on pole with Leon Haslam (Ducati), Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda) and Gregorio Lavilla (Ducati) joining him on the front row of the grid.  Kiyonari lead the way off the line closely followed by Rea, who took over the lead on lap 3.  Kiyonari was back in the lead by lap 9, with Rea hanging on to 2nd place to the flag.  Meanwhile places were being changed constantly behind these two, with Lavilla finishing 3rd, Haslam 4th and Shane Byrne (Suzuki) 5th.

By the time race 2 was due to start it was raining heavily.  Michael Rutter (Honda) was the surprise leader for the first 4 laps until Karl Harris (Honda) took over.  Haslam had made a bad start but was gradually making his way through the pack and was up to 2nd place by lap 12, although over 7 seconds behind Harris.  Haslam then started about reeling in Harris and finally caught him on the final lap.  With a daring overtaking move at the hairpin on the last lap he managed to take the win, his first this season, from Harris by a mere 0.09 seconds.  Lavilla finished 3rd again, with Byrne 4th and Kiyonari in 5th.
