WSBK SILVERSTONE 28/05/06

After a dry day on Friday it rained all day Saturday, that is except for Superpole, although the track was wet it had actually stopped raining, but Superpole was declared wet.  Each rider had 12 laps in which to set a time for their grid position.  Chris Walker (PSG-1 Kawasaki) always goes well in the wet and he was on pole for a while, until "wildcard" Tommy Hill showed how good the Virgin Mobile Yamaha is on Pirellis in the wet, taking pole position from all the experienced regulars.  Championship leader Troy Bayliss (Xerox Ducati) was second, with Chris Walker eventually securing a front row start in 3rd, and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) completing the front row in fourth.

Race one started with a pile up at the first corner on the first lap, causing a restart.  The race was a battle between Bayliss and Haga, with Bayliss coming out the victor.  While this was happening no-one noticed a brilliant ride by James Toseland (Tenkate Honda) who came through from 14th on the grid to a podium finish in 3rd place.  It was also a good ride by Ruben Xaus (Sterilgada Ducati), but he had to settle for 4th in the end.

Race two was another Bayliss / Haga battle until Bayliss finally pulled out a lead to take another double win.  Haga was 2nd again and Toseland had another excellent race to finish 3rd again.  This time it was Haga's team mate Andrew Pitt who finished 4th.  Chris Walker had a brief moment of glory when he lead the race for the first two laps, with Tommy Hill in 4th, who had two good races and two 12th place finishes, while Walker had 6th and 8th place finishes.
