BSB THRUXTON - Round 2 - 15/04/07

Gregorio Lavilla gave another high speed performance and a lessen to everyone else in how to win two BSB races on his Airwaves Ducati.  In glorious sunny weather again all weekend, Tommy Hill made the most of it on the Virgin Media Yamaha R1 to beat Lavilla to pole position, with Shane Byrne (Stobart Honda) and Jonny Rea (HM Plant Honda) joining them on the front row of the grid.

Lavilla was at his best again in race 1, winning by 3.5 seconds from Leon Camier (Bike Animal Honda) having another good ride for 2nd place.  Rea retired from the race, but his team mate Ryuichi Kiyonari faired better at Thruxton with a 3rd place and then 2nd place in race 2. Byrne was a good 4th with his young team mate, Tom Sykes, not too far behind in 5th.  Haslam again struggled with a 6th place in race 1 and race 2.  Hill could only manage 8th place, and Chris Walker had a disappointing ride to 9th place on the Rizla Suzuki, being beaten by his young team mate Cal Crutchlow who finished 7th.  Both had an even more disappointing second race when Walker's engine blew up on lap 4 and Crutchlow crashed out on the penultimate lap at Club chicane.

Lavilla didn't have it all his own way in race 2, with just 1.3 seconds covering the first 5 finishers.  He was chased home with Kiyonari, Byrne, Rea and Camier snapping at his heels.  Camier is so far proving to be the "rookie" of the season.
